چکیده

The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that by employing relaying and using the remaining battery lifetime information of Mobile Terminals (MT) in next generation cellular networks, the outage probability of the MT is reduced. We define outage probability as the probability that the connection between the MT and the Base Station (BS) is lost when the MT is asked to use a transmission power greater than some threshold. This threshold is determined based on the remaining battery lifetime of the MT. We assume a linear relationship between the remaining battery lifetime and the maximum allowed transmission power. We used a 2-hop relaying mechanism to illustrate our concept, and simulated for both urban and sub-urban terrains. We will see that outage probability is significantly different for both the terrains, upon which we suggest the type of relay suitable for relaying for each of the terrains. We consider two types of relays relays which have infinite battery power like for cars, and relays which have finite battery power like for other MTs. Keywords-Next Generation Cellular Networks, Relaying, CDMA Systems, Remaining Battery Lifetime information, Outage Probability.

Performance Study on Cooperative Relaying Topologies in beyond 3G Systems

Relaying has been proposed to support users suffering from high shadowing or high interference and therefore being not able to receive high data rates. With adaptive relaying, a higher Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) can be used in order to increase the feasible data rate. The investigation of relaying techniques widely has concentrated on information theoretical methods. Instead, this paper...

Optimizing Time and Power Allocation for Cooperation Diversity in a Decode-and-Forward Three-Node Relay Channel

— Providing space diversity at mobile devices such as handsets, personal digital assistants (PDA), etc is costly and problematic, due to their strict space limitation. Recent studies, however, have revealed that extraordinary diversity gain, which results in the remarkable bene ts of an increased achievable transmission code-rate and a reduced information outage probability, can be obtained fro...

On Wireless Energy and Information Transfer in Relay Networks

This paper investigates the outage probability and the throughput of relay networks with wireless information and energy transfer where the relays harvest energy from the transmitted radio-frequency signal of the source. Considering different power consumption models, we derive the outage probability for both adaptive and non-adaptive power allocations at the relay. With a total energy consumpt...

A Battery Power Scheduling Policy with Hardware Support in Mobile Devices

. A major issue in the ad hoc networks with energy constraints is to find ways that increase their lifetime. The use of multihop radio relaying requires a sufficient number of relaying nodes to maintainnetwork connectivity. Hence, battery power is a precious resource that must be used efficiently in order to avoid early termination of any node. In this paper, a new battery power scheduling poli...

Outage Probability Analysis of ARQ-Based DF Opportunistic Relaying with Outdated CSI

In this paper, the outage performance of automatic repeat request (ARQ) based opportunistic relaying is analyzed when the channel state information (CSI) for relay selection is outdated. The outage probability is derived in terms of correlation between SNR and outdated SNR of the channel from the selected relay to destination. It is shown that simulation results of the outage probability match ...
